Our Beliefs

NOTE: Click on the 1689 logo to the right in order to see a more complete doctrinal explanation of the general doctrinal framework of our church.

The Scriptures. We believe that the Bible is the breathed out word of the one, true and living God. Being the very word of God we believe the Bible is inerrant (i.e., without error), infallible (i.e., incapable of faltering or failing), all sufficient for salvation life and godliness, profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and training in righteousness. We believe in the clarity of the Bible, that in one place or another God has clearly communicates His being, perfections, truth and will for us. We also believe in the final and absolute authority of the Bible alone.

God. We believe in one, true, only, living and eternal God, the God of holy Scripture, the God of all creation, the God who was, is and ever more shall be. He alone is God and no gods were formed before or after Him.

”The Lord our God is but one only living and true God; whose subsistence is in and of Himself, infinite in being and perfection; whose essence cannot be comprehended by any but Himself; most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts, or passions, who only has life and immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; who is immutable, omnipresent in all His fullness, eternal, incomprehensible, almighty, every way infinite, most holy, most wise, most free, most absolute; working all things according to the counsel of His own immutable and most righteous will, for His own glory; most loving, gracious, merciful, long-suffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin; the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him, and withal most just and holy in His judgments, hating all sin, and who will by no means clear the guilty.” (the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith with updates)

The Trinity. We believe there is but one God and none other. We believe that this one God subsists as three co-equal, co-eternal persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. These are not three Gods, but one. These are not thirds of God, but each is fully God. These are not modes of God, but three co-eternal persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. One God and yet three persons.

Jesus Christ. We believe that God the Father sent God the Son to take on human flesh, yet without sin. We believe that God the Son, being God, retained the fullness of His divine nature and being, but that the glories thereof were temporarily veiled in His incarnate state before the eyes of man. He is both fully God and fully man, without mixture or confusion, and yet one in person. We believe that in Christ all the fullness of deity dwells in bodily form.

”It pleased God, in His eternal purpose, to choose and ordain the Lord Jesus, His only begotten Son, according to the covenant made between them both, to be the mediator between God and man; the prophet, priest, and king; head and savior of the church, the heir of all things, and judge of the world; unto whom He did from all eternity give a people to be His seed and to be by Him in time redeemed, called, justified, sanctified, and glorified.” - 1689 LBCF

The Holy Spirit. We believe that God the Spirit is fully God and not a force or a thing. He is God the eternal Holy Spirit. His ministry is to point us to the Father through the person and work of the incarnate Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to awaken us unto salvation in regeneration, to grant life and faith and repentance, to seal His people unto the day of Jesus’ return.

Man. We believe that man was created by God on the 6th day of creation for God’s glory and that He created man in the image of God, and that God made man both male and female by design from the beginning of creation.

The Fall. We believe that in the Garden of Eden, Adam, as the representative head of the human race fell into sin and this bringing a curse wherein we are all conceived with a sin nature and do actually sin.

Sin. We believe that sin is to disobey, rebel against and defy God and His holy person, will and law. We believer that we not only all have a sin nature, but we do all actually sin in agreement with the sin of Adam.

Salvation. We reject entirely that salvation is by any human means, merit or works in whole or in part. We maintain that a man is saved by God’s grace alone through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ alone, in His atoning death for sin and resurrection alone apart from the works of the law. We believe that what man cannot do, i.e., save himself in whole or in part, God has done by sending His Son to be born without sin of the virgin Mary and conceived of the Holy Spirit, to live a holy life on behalf of His people, and to bear their sins upon His own body on the cross, to pay their sin debt in full by shedding His blood and giving His life, satisfying entirely the holy and just demands of God due our sin so that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord might be saved. We believe that this salvation washes away all sin, reconciles the sinner eternally unto God to know and enjoy God forever.

Second Coming. We believe in the literal, bodily second coming of Jesus Christ in which He will judge all men: condemning the wicked to an eternal hell, and rewarding the redeemed with eternal life in fellowship with Him. We believe that He will create a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness will dwell, where He will fellowship in perfect peace for eternity with His redeemed people.

Creation. We believe in a literal, six-day creation by the power and wisdom of God and that the heavens and all creation declare His glory. We believe in a literal Adam and Eve.

The Flood. We believe in a literal global flood.

Pastoral Ministry. We believe that the office of pastor and the practice of shepherding and preaching to the entire gathered congregation is reserved for biblically qualified men.

Marriage. We believe that marriage is God’s creation and God’s design and is between one man and one woman exclusively until death do they part.

Woke Theology/Critical Race Theory. We reject woke theology and Critical Race Theory (CRT) as being Marxist, atheistic ideologies which are a threat to the unity of the body of Christ and the purity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Abortion. We believe that human life begins at conception and are praying and working toward the full abolition and criminalization of abortion - which is the murder of the unborn.

Doctrines of Grace. We believe that God is truly and absolutely sovereign and yet exercises that sovereignty, in part, through the means of the genuine actions of His creatures, yet so as not to be the author of sin, nor to give up or lessen His sovereignty to man.. We believe in God’s complete sovereignty and liberty and man’s genuine will but within the bounds of God’s sovereignty. We affirm that salvation is by God’s grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone and is to the glory of God alone. We believe that man is radically fallen such that sin has touched on every part of his being and human nature. We believe that election is God’s choice from eternity and not man’s (supposedly seen down through the corridor of time). We believe the Jesus Christ gloriously died for and will redeem all that the Father has given to Him. We believe that salvation results from the regeneration and effectual call of the Word and the Holy Spirit. We believe that not only is a genuine believer secure, but is kept secure and persevering in their faith unto they enter into glory.
